Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR)

What is an Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR)?

An entrepreneur-in-residence (EIR) is typically a former startup founder who now works for a VC firm. The EIR helps the firm with due diligence on potential investments and may serve as an advisor or mentor to the VC fund’s portfolio companies.

At the same time, the EIR can start working on their next project — which could be founding a new company, joining a portfolio company’s leadership team, or potentially becoming a partner at the firm. If the EIR launches a new startup, the VC firm may receive priority during funding rounds
